Blue Label Telecoms Integrated Annual Report 2019

Notes to the Group annual financial statements continued For the year ended 31 May 2019 128 Blue Label annual financial statements 2019 12. 2018 ACCOUNTING POLICIES continued 12.2 Financial instruments and financial risks continued 12.2.1 Financial assets (a) Loans receivable Loans and receivables Loans and receivables are non-derivative financial assets with fixed or determinable payments that are not quoted in an active market. These assets are included in current assets, except for maturities greater than 12 months after the statement of financial position date, which are classified as non- current assets. (b) Trade and other receivables Trade receivables are amounts due from customers for goods sold or services performed in the ordinary course of business. If collection is expected in the normal operating cycle of the business, they are classified as current assets. If not, they are presented as non-current assets. Trade receivables are recognised initially at fair value and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest rate method, less provision for impairment. A provision for impairment of trade receivables is established when there is objective evidence that the Group will not be able to collect all amounts due according to the original terms of receivables. The amount of the provision is the difference between the asset’s carrying amount and the present value of estimated future cash flows, discounted at the original effective interest rate. The amount of the provision is recognised in the income statement. (c) Cash and cash equivalents Cash and cash equivalents include cash on hand and deposits held on call with banks. 12.2.2 Financial liabilities Financial liabilities and equity instruments issued by the Group are classified according to the substance of the contractual arrangements entered into and the definitions of a financial liability and an equity instrument. An equity instrument is any contract that evidences a residual interest in the assets of the Group after deducting all of its liabilities. Refer to accounting policies on borrowings and trade and other payables for financial liabilities (which exclude employee-related liabilities and VAT), and share capital for equity instruments issued by the Group. (a) Trade and other payables Trade payables are obligations to pay for goods or services that have been acquired in the ordinary course of business from suppliers. Trade payables are classified as current liabilities if payment is due within the normal operating cycle of the business. If not, they are presented as non-current liabilities. Fair value estimation Fair value measurement hierarchy: Level 1: Fair value based on quoted prices (unadjusted) in active markets for identical assets or liabilities; Level 2: Fair value based on inputs other than quoted prices included within level 1 that are observable for the asset or liability, either directly (that is, as prices) or indirectly (that is, derived from prices); or Level 3: Fair value based on inputs for the asset or liability that are not based on observable market data (that is, observable inputs). Put option liability Put option liabilities represent contracts that impose an obligation on the Group to purchase the shares of a subsidiary for cash or another financial asset. Put option liabilities are initially raised from the transaction with non-controlling interest reserve in equity at the present value of the expected redemption amount payable. Subsequent revisions to the expected redemption amount payable as well as the unwinding of the discount related to the measurement of the present value of the put option liability, are recognised in the income statement. Where a put option liability expires unexercised or is cancelled, the carrying value of the financial liability is released to the transaction with non-controlling interest reserve in equity. The Group recognises the non-controlling interest over which a put option exists at acquisition date. Put option liabilities are presented within trade and other payables in the Group statement of financial position.
